Call forwarding on Verizon Wireless
Dial one code from your cell phone. Calls you don't answer, or that come in while you're on another call, go to your receptionist.
Your receptionist number
Replace XXXXXXXXXX below with your receptionist's 10-digit number from your account, with no spaces or dashes.
Turn it on
- 1
Open your phone's keypad and dial this code, then press Call:
*71XXXXXXXXXX - 2
Wait for the confirmation tone, then hang up.
On an iPhone
The Call Forwarding switch in iPhone Settings forwards every call, so your iPhone would never ring. Don't use it for your receptionist. Instead, open the Phone app's keypad and dial your carrier's codes from its guide. They work on any iPhone.
On Android
The codes above work on any Android phone. On Verizon, use Verizon's *71 code instead of the menu.
Test it
From a different phone, call your business number and don't answer. After a few rings your receptionist picks up, and the call shows in your account within a minute.
Turn it off
Dial this code and press Call. It also turns off any other forwarding:
*73
Good to know
- Verizon forwards after three or four rings, so you still get the chance to answer.
- Verizon charges no monthly fee for call forwarding on current plans. Normal airtime applies to forwarded calls.
- Don't use *72: that forwards every call, so your phone would never ring.
