Call forwarding on Google Voice

Google Voice can't forward straight to an AI receptionist, but you can forward from the cell phone Google Voice rings.

Your receptionist number

Replace XXXXXXXXXX below with your receptionist's 10-digit number from your account, with no spaces or dashes.

Turn it on

  1. 1

Make sure Google Voice rings your cell phone (Settings, Calls, Call forwarding, your linked number).

  2. 2

Set up conditional forwarding on that cell phone's carrier, using its guide on this page (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and so on).

  3. 3

Test it: call your Google Voice number from another phone and don't answer. Your receptionist should pick up after your cell rings out.

Test it

From a different phone, call your business number and don't answer. After a few rings your receptionist picks up, and the call shows in your account within a minute.

Turn it off

  • Turn off forwarding on your cell phone using its carrier's turn-off code.

Good to know

  • Google says forwarding from a Google Voice number to an automated system isn't supported, and a linked number must confirm a code by text or call, which a receptionist line can't do.
  • If Google Voice voicemail picks up before your receptionist, shorten your cell phone's ring time (T-Mobile and similar carriers let you set it) or turn off Google Voice voicemail.

Common method; your provider's own instructions win if they differ. Based on Google Voice Help: Link phone numbers to Google Voice, checked October 25, 2026. Carriers change things: if a step doesn't match what you see, email support@callmillie.com.
